For this project, Shire Driveways and Patios Derby transformed an outdated driveway with a stylish block paving design, featuring a silver haze 45° herringbone pattern and a natural grey border.
The client wanted a durable, low-maintenance driveway with a modern and defined look.
The herringbone pattern adds extra strength to the driveway, making it ideal for high-traffic areas, while the natural grey border frames the space beautifully, creating a clean and polished finish.
Challenges & Requirements
- The existing driveway was worn and uneven, requiring full excavation and resurfacing.
- The client wanted a contemporary and stylish driveway that would enhance their home’s kerb appeal.
- The 45° herringbone pattern was chosen for its added durability and striking visual effect.
- The natural grey border was included to define the driveway edges and add contrast.
The Installation Process
Excavation & Ground Preparation:
- The old driveway surface was fully removed.
- A compacted sub-base was laid to ensure a strong foundation and prevent movement over time.
Laying the Natural Grey Border:
- The perimeter of the driveway was framed with natural grey blocks, creating a neat and defined edge.
Installing the Silver Haze 45° Herringbone Pattern:
- The silver haze blocks were carefully laid in a 45° herringbone formation, ensuring maximum strength and stability.
- This pattern is one of the most durable block paving designs, preventing movement and ensuring long-lasting performance.
Final Compaction & Sanding:
- Once the blocks were securely in place, the driveway was compacted to lock them together.
- Kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints to provide a firm and weather-resistant finish.
The Result
The completed block paving driveway now features a sleek and modern look, with the silver haze herringbone design adding character and durability.
